  • How to get into the runway in the Ice base 8.5 years ago

Don't bother with Ice Base Assault, attack the base from the side. Start from Blue Glacier Park. After takeoff stay low and bank right until you circle around and are facing the ice base. The turrets may start to track you, don't panic, continue to stay low and use the mountain for cover. As soon as you pop over the top of the ridge target the nearest turret and take it out with an air to ground missile. Then get behind the ice base as quickly as you can to avoid being targeted by the remaining turret . Once safely out of range, use mountain on the other side of the ice base as cover to attack the remaining turret. With both turrets down it's then just a matter of landing(or crashing) inside the ice base and setting up a new location.

@Clawsome I thought about doing it that way too, but I liked how making your way over to the hangers would force the player to take into account how stable their landing gear system was. I know I have a number of designs that are stable enough when stationary but tip over as soon as I try to turn the plane around.

@Viper28 well given that this is my most popular post yet (which isn't saying much), you don't seem to be the only one who wants this.

At the same time people have been asking for nose cone inlets for how long? They just now got it into beta testing. You just need to keep after them.

I managed to get inside....it did involve crashing....a lot. There are multiple voices!

  • Submarine Parts! 8.3 years ago

There are other parts you need to consider like ballast tanks for submerging and surfacing. At the same time is pressure going to become a mechanic too? Just like how if you fly your plane high enough it becomes difficult to fly due lack of air, will diving too deep cause the ship to crack and crumple?

  • I Need a Name and a Concept! 8.3 years ago

@Liquidfox If I can, I'm looking to avoid doing another canard like the J7W1 or J7W2. Haven't done something with the engines front and back like the Do-335. There is also the J4M1 to think about, but I feel like it's almost a P-38 knock off. The other question is what to call it since I don't fully understand Japanese naming structures.

  • I Need a Name and a Concept! 8.3 years ago

@Liquidfox That's what I'm looking for help on. During the war the Japanese didn't do as much experimenting as Germany and the US did. So besides the J7W1 Shinden there's very little to use for inspiration. I had the same problem with the USSR before I finally cobbled something together.

  • Bandit Run 8.3 years ago

I'm testing mine against many of the planes others have uploaded, and so far speed-wise they're all within 1-2mph of each other. However getting a benchmark on course time has proven difficult because the faster ones keep crashing into each other by the first couple of rings. I'm thinking robustness is going to come into play this round.

  • Bandit Run 8.3 years ago

@Quintasoarus Okay I'm pretty sure there is a glitch in the right lane, I just did a head to head race with A tweaked version of my plane in both lanes, The left lane performed as well as expected. One of the engines in the right lane however jammed up and exploded, ripping the aircraft apart. With less than three days to go this is the importance of testing in both lanes.

  • Bandit Run 8.3 years ago

@Quintasoarus I've noticed it too. I think it's a glitch from using merged engines. But at the same time I've also noticed the Ai in the right lane seems to be more prone to committing suicide by rolling over and diving into the canyon floor. (usually around ring #10 for me)

  • Bandit Run 8.3 years ago

The Silver Bullet is back!. I'll be tweaking it over the next few days. Any help would be appreciated. Average time is around 1:46

  • 40% OFF on PC 8.4 years ago

Cool! I bought it before the sale, that means I get 40% back right?

  • Shark Tooth 8.4 years ago

Now running slower but making it through the course more reliably. The AI still screams "BATH TIME" every 3-4 runs.

  • Shark Tooth 8.4 years ago

1:02 with no missed rings, but I can only get it to complete the course without crashing 1 out of 4 runs.

  • Suggestions for the next update! 8.5 years ago

There is an early predecessor to the Turbo Jet Engine that might be interesting to add. It's known as a "Motor Jet." Basically instead of having a set of turbines at the back of the combustion chamber power the intake fans at the front, a regular old piston engine is used in it's place. There's only a few real world examples of the motor jet, like the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich I-250, as it wasn't the most fuel efficient or powerful engine in the world. But still it could be interesting to experiment with. If nothing else, a road going variant is what you'd probably use to make a real world Batmobile!

Other possible engines to include are:
    Pulse Jet
    Ram Jet
    Scram Jet
Prop Fan(basically uses a propeller and jet thrust)

  • Suggestions for the next update! 8.5 years ago

I suggested a while back adding Solid Rocket Engines. They would function similarly to jet engines except once activated they would immediately go to full power and burn until the engine itself ran out of fuel (about 30 sec per engine). The burn time could be extended by "stacking" the engines end to end.

So will we be allowed to modify and upload new planes while we wait for the "do-over" tournament or are we stuck using the same planes?

  • PX-2A Swallow Tail (armed) 8.6 years ago

@General360 Hey don't forget to checkout the PX-1A Wingblade. Both of these planes are part of the "Phoenix Squadron." They were both developed under "Project Phoenix," a top secret rapid prototyping program setup to bring allied aviation technology to be on par with and surpass that of the axis powers. Or so the comic idea I had goes. It's doesn't sound like these planes were developed in time to be useful to your story. I'm still working on what the Russian member of the squadron would look like and I'll be uploading the German counterpart soon, The MH-16 Skywolf.

  • [SUGGESTION] I've been thinking to post this for ages... 8.6 years ago

I kinda agree with this. Only in that the only difference I've found between the new and old rotators is that the new ones aren't as "robust" as the old ones. I tried using some of the new ones to build a cycling for a tilt rotor I've been working on. They would bend and strain and caused the aircraft to jiggle every time I tried to change the pitch.

  • Suggestion for new weapons 8.6 years ago

I think I'd rather see some defensive weapons like flares. Dealing with those Ice Base launchers is tough.

  • What's the fastest unmodded speed for a jet engine plane? 8.6 years ago

Define unmodded, because in the last racing tournament people were hitting close to 2000mph. But a number of these planes (mine included) used "nudged" parts to achieve impossible designs. They were fast, but there is no way they would work in real life without a hell of a lot more engineering/technological development. So the short answer is, no one's found it yet.

  • Flyweight - Oceanview Speedway 8.6 years ago

@CyberDyneIndustries I'm thinking after seeing (and experiencing) how nudging parts can give one plane over another, the next race should be a snap-tight tournament (aka no nudged parts)

  • Flyweight - Oceanview Speedway 8.6 years ago

I've gone a lot further then I thought I would

  • *Spoiler* East of Yeager 8.6 years ago

Also there's a glitch (or maybe it's on purpose) where the monster doesn't recognize boats once they get inside a certain range.

  • Bluebird K7 Jet-Boat 8.8 years ago

@reistadmo Yeah...no. This was built from scratch and looks nothing like anything you've uploaded. Plus, technically I took the design from Donald Campbell since it's based on his boat.

  • Bluebird K7 8.8 years ago

After a quick test one thing I can tell you is that the floats on the outriggers sit higher than the main hull. At low speed this is fine because they're still in the water. But once you get up to speed and boat begins to rise out of the water they become useless. I had the same problem. Use the nudge function to lower the floats until they're even with or lower than the main hull.

  • Bluebird K7 8.8 years ago

Take a look at mine and compare notes. My boat is stable past 300mph.Try using structural wings instead of fuselage pieces for your struts. As they are now they're probably creating too much drag. https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/6fxxHd/Bluebird-K7-Jet-boat
