Currently working on a 'twin' engine aircraft using the engine from this.
So many engines! It sounds good.
It is finished, at least it is fully flyable and up to my usual standard detail wise, as in 'not much detail'. heh
Planning on adding 'fake jets' (jets that do nothing but use fuel and look pretty) for the look of the thing, but which ones to use. *needs to think on that.
Has weapons on it this time, heavy machine guns, but that is it.
Looks like it could be a 'multi-role' aircraft capable of doing a bit of everything, but none of them super well. :F
@L728 Heh, things like this tend to fly for a very short distance if launched from Yeager.
However, you can get just about anything to 'fly' (using the term very loosely) if it has enough power.
Have a look at this thing made by me as an example -> The Slab
EDIT: Very interesting.
It is flyable, reasonably controllable too, one you get used to it.
It would benefit from a tail of some sort, just for stability.
It is definitely worth a look everyone, just for the fact that it really does seem to do what it should not be doing.
Seems like I am taking lessons from the really old aircraft just now.
The only other aircraft I can think of at the moment with 3 wings is the really OLD Triplane from WW1.
*does a quick gooogle search
Yep, the Dreidecker or Fokker DR1, circa 1918.
Also found out something I did not know, there was also a Sopwith Triplane built before the DR1. Interesting.
Things learned today:
1) Missiles mounted on Drones no longer function once separated from the Mothership.
I'm guessing that also goes for all of the other weapons in the inventory, although it may not be the case.
2) Giving missiles a very short launch delay time allows you fire a LOT of missiles at the same target. Looks impressive, but when it only takes ONE for a kill, it is a bit of a waste. Who cares, looks cool, all of the missiles firing off vertically. :p
It's big and not very pretty.
Still working on it.
Sort of.
The closely set twin tails will go, I will either separate them more or make one smack in the middle.
It will eventually have some sort of bombing system on it, when I think of something interesting along that line.
Plain old gravity bombs are a bit 'MEH' these days.
Maybe I can make JDAMS or whatever they are called.
Suggestions for weapons systems are welcome, I may even be able make some of them myself.lol
In 'dogfight' mode with the PC flying both planes they seem to be automatic.
However, as I found out, if you are flying the plane, they are not.
I learned something new with this post, so everyone wins.
@plane918273645 lol, no.
Also, they seem to be working now, for some odd reason.
I placed an extra one and it seems to be ok now.
Not that it helps much the plane is so big. heh
I'm constantly adding stuff (weapons) to this.
I may even re-upload a version with the new gear on it at some point.
After seeing how a version of the Arsenal Bird (version 3 I think it is) launches missiles, I'm working on a vertical launch system for miniceptors.
Finding out how many of them I can stuff into a certain area without them blowing up the plane on launch has been fun.
The smaller they get, the more fit, but past a certain point they are a pain to handle.
1/4 scale is a good size I'm finding.
Also going to look at something that will make life very interesting if I can it to work. ;)
About this wing structure, it is just something I thought I would try out.
The forward swept wing is nothing new, but the way it has been built up is, at least I think it is.
The multiple wing... sections lets call them, generate an odd control surface shape.
If this was real, I don't think a pilot exists that could fly it to it's full potential, the g-forces generated would probably cause them to black out.
@Avro683Lancaster
I made something based on the Ekranoplan a little while back that you might want to have a look at, just search 'Ekranoplan' and check out the large version.
You might find a few things that could be useful, you might not.
For some reason I did not have the 'bobbing' problem that you seem to be having.
I have not downloaded your version (YET!), but I will.
If I can figure out how to kill the bobbing, I'll let you know.
Mine has a tendency to want to fly if it goes too fast. heh.
EDIT: Nope, no idea how to 'fix' the bobbing.
Your Ekranoplan does not work like mine.
Clever use of the new rotor systems though.
Very nice to use and looks good too.
@HiHiTryLol
I'm not sure what speed the surprise activates, but you really want to make sure you don't have any weapons on the wings when it does.
All I know is that if you are under 5000 feet and over 600 mph, the plane does an odd thing.
The speed could be faster or slower, I think it depends on how high you are.
If you can get it to happen, don't tell and spoil the 'surprise'. lol
I made a 'fighter' sized aircraft before this and wondered if a larger 'bomber' sized aircraft would perform in a similar fashion.
It turns out I'm right, it pretty much does, except for a slower roll than the fighter sized version.
The fighter IS coming, but I'm going to take my time and make it pretty and add some actual details to it, unlike this Bomber version which I just wanted to get out there after the NUN 'troll' I encountered. :P
NUN's and Penguins go together.
Ask Ted Bullpit from the show "Kingswood Country" about it. :P
*Kingswood Country is an old Australian TV show made well before the 'political correctness' thing hit.
@Notaleopard Yup, I know.
I made that too.
In here at any rate.
The Original design is from Freelancer and I have no idea who actually designed the ship.
Pretty sure I gave credit to the Freelancer game.
Lots of pretty cool ships to fly in that game.
This one is a non-uploaded predecessor for that one.
Also working on another one, it flies and so on, just need to make it 'pretty' and think up a backstory for it.
Going to be hard, it's not nice looking to start with. lol
EDIT: Now you reminded me of an aircraft from a book I have.
It had a 'towed radar array' I think it was.
You could also use it for a towed decoy launcher.
Some interesting possibilities.
@Giggitymerf
There are a number of very large aircraft on here that perform surprisingly well.
Mind you some of them have XML modified engines and a few other things, but that doesn't make them any less nice to fly. ;)
@shipster
Pretty big.
Probably not the biggest one on here though, I have not really looked.
Aside from that, I pretty much had to custom make a weapon for my project so it looks right.
Is this some sort of coincidence?
I uploaded a 'Giga Bomb' just minutes before you uploaded this.
Now I need to d/l it to see if it can carry my bomb!
Edit: Yup, will carry my bomb, quite easily too. Placed them on the wings and went flying. Trying to shuffle them into the bomb bay was 'too hard' just now as I need to sleep sometime soon. :P
Flies quite nicely too, very stable.
@Vinicius6226
Thank you. This fits rather tightly in the bomb holding area of the project I am working on.
Note I said 'bomb holding area'. The project does not have a conventional bomb bay. ;)
@all
Also, you will need some practice to gain accuracy with this, despite huge coverage.
About Weapons in Freelancer: All weapons are grouped into classes, from class 1 up to class 10, 1 being 'weak' and 10 being very powerful.
The Nyx can support 1 class 10, 3 class 9 and 2 class 8 guns or missile launchers, as well as a torpedo launcher.
Unlike here, firing time is limited by the amount of power the ship has, you run out of power and the guns stop working.
I may have to think about creating a set of weapons that use the class system specifically for the Freelancer Discovery series of ships.
Most Very Heavy Fighters use class 8, 9 and 10 guns, so it would be nice to have something that reflects that.
Class 8 would be the Minigun, stock.
Class 9 the Heavy Machine gun maybe.
Class 10 would have to be either one of those XML edited in some fashion.
I've done the 'hidden engine' trick yet again with this build, using a BFE 150, but the three visible engines do actually provide a little power.
I was a little surprised by how well it flew, after a little tweaking of the various centers of course.
I can only hope the next ship flies as well as this one, it has a forward swept wing on it and those can be difficult to make fly well.
@Kalanimcd Ain't medical technology wonderful? The brace will hopefully be temporary and with some work and time, you will be up and running (sorry about the pun!) in no time.
Where I'm working now is close to a hospital.
It's a strange day when I don't see someone with a fracture of some sort.
@Kalanimcd Yeah, I'm pretty good now.
They found a problem during tests and put me straight in to have it sorted.
I'm back at work and things are going pretty well.
I have a couple of good reminders to look after myself too, the scar on my chest and the even bigger one on my leg.
@Aerozack
A novel use of Interceptor Missiles and it works extremely well too.
All of that and it's fully steerable, which I found out by going into control by mouse by accident.
@Johndfg A lot of work went into this.
It took a while to spawn into the game for me, but it DID work and looked great in game on high settings, although my PC struggled a bit at points.
I love the old warbirds, but I'm not good enough (yet!) to do justice to them.
This started off as an experiment of sorts for another project I'm working on, but having trouble getting motivated to restart.
I also realised by building this, that it would be 'impractical' to do what I was planning this way as I don't know how to turn off fuel use on the motors and they were going to be 'dummy' fireworks displays, not the main engine.
Imagine the circle on the back, fully packed with as many engines as I could get to fit.
It would look cool at full power.
Looks like I get to fiddle with beacons again and see what I can do, maybe red, yellow and orange ones all blinking at different rates.
@Badplanesdotnet
Well, thanks, I think.
@atgxtg
Things like this occasionally come to me for some reason.
This one comes mostly from a previous design that flew amazingly well, but hasn't attracted that much interest. lol

+2If you need help, it helps if you post what the problem is.
Ignore this post if you are doing that while I am posting here. :P
I'm going to experiment with this airframe, so do not be surprised to see this with engines that will seem out of place. heh
EDIT: Try different wing positions for different aircraft behaviour.

Roll is badly affected as well, as in it almost doesn't happen.

My pleasure.

I love how it can out-turn the missiles they launch, all you need to do is find the missile/s and you are safe.

I would not copy the work of someone else and not give credit, that would be beyond wrong.

@VeryUnprofession Then go check out the Discovery Mod for it, Edison. :P
@VeryUnprofession
Yep. Freelancer. It's an old (10+ years) space trading game.
Rheinland is one of the major Houses in the game.
Additional info.
The various 'Houses' of Freelancer: Discovery.
Each house has it's own distinct ship line.
The houses are as follows;
Liberty.
Bretonia.
Kusari.
Rheinland.
Corsairs.
Outcasts.
Gallia.
The only house that is not 'vanilla' is Gallia, a completely new house only found in Discovery, along with new completely new ships.
The missiles were something that I had 'lying around' as it were.
I made them for a different project, but they didn't really work with it.
@atgxtg Sure no problem at all, it's an odd design after all.

@exosuit Like I said it would be hard to set up.
Possibly something could be done with the 'spray paints'.
