I think it just took a while before everyone figured out that jelly was really just trolling. He was only just trying to "tick" everyone off. And man did he succeed.
Ive actually been working on it. Guess what happend? It was actually airborn and flying.....however, it so far, is nowhere near stable enough to come close to a landing. It kinda flies like the wright flyer. Speed, check!
Airborn, check
Controllability.........meeeh
Landability? Prepare for impact.
@Skua
This has to do with how the camera works for cockpit view. The camera is set inside of the main cockpit. None of the parts are drawn inside so they are basically invisible from the inside, thus, you dont see the main cockpit. The wall behind you is the second cockpit. If you dont want this wall, you have 2 options: eitther clip the second cockpit into the main one so that its wall is infront of the camera, or have nothing directly behind the main cockpit.
That is caused by the plane stalling from high AoA. Meaning, you need to make wings bigger, remove weight, and/or make the pitch control surfaces smaller.
@OtterOfToast
If you want to do that, then take all the fuel out of all your fuselage parts and wings, and replace all the fuel tank blocks with straight ones. Then put 2% fuel in one fuselage parts to get you airborne.
@OtterOfToast
Easiest way i figured out how to do that is connect a detacher on the parts you want to lose. Example: if you want to try and land the stock P-51 with half a left wing, take the wing section off, put a detacher on the mount, then reattach the wing with the detacher in the middle. It flys slightly differently, but the challeng is all there.
Looks awesome, however, you're in the same boat i am with my original Speedbird build, where the very design of the aircraft makes it unstable. I tried but i couldnt make it stable. Sorry
i dont mind the AI flying so rough. All you need is a stable plane to give it and it does fine. If you plane is unstable, the AI will have a hard time flying it. The only thing i dont like about the AI is that it has no awareness of terrain. CFIT is the biggest killer of this AI.
Seems to me that more prop blades and/or thickness require more engine power to get performance. The question for what blade size or how many blades comes when you are trying for fuel economy. Like i said, more blades mean more horsepower to turn. More horsepower means more fuel. Is it worth it?
Indeed. The best crashes ive suffered after a win is those pesky propellers that come from nowhere fast. Even when you try to dodge the debris, they still come at you for revenge. @Allstar
I was chasing the AI with me in my flying boat fighter and him in the stock biplane. As im staying with him, he dives towards the south runway, levels off , turns a few times pulls up, then dives back down and crashes into the ground. I see it and think "oh ill land and come around and look at the damage." Well, as i start to touch down, right over the crash site, a part of the biplane's wing comes down, out of nowhere, and knocks off half of my left wing. I almost right my plane from the impact but by that time, ive lost what was left of my altitude and crash.
Unfortunatly, it doesnt work that way. from what i understand, the modded fuel tank you're using is 2 tanks. 1 is loaded with fuel and therefor, ULTRA heavy. The other tank weighs a negative amount (the exact amount the first tank weighs). Then the modder nudges the 2 tanks together to take up 1 block space. So what happens is that when you're burning fuel, the heavy tanks becomes lighter while the second tank remains a negative amount. This continues until, you guessed it, your planes weighs negative pounds.
At first, i thought it handled poorly. Sluggish, rotate speed of 600mph or so. Then i tried the vtol slider amd saw what yall did there. My opinion would be that you have the wing mounted engines be super-powered amd have the vtol engine be, moderately, super powered and/or have the vtol nozzles be tied into the pitch control. Whether of yall follow this is up to you, it handles well either way. I will highly recommend you put on air brakes though to to make it easier to slow down for landing however
Aww, it cant be modded to weigh more than 1k?
I was hoping an xml mod could get do that so i can shorten the nose on my corsair without loosing stability
Your plane is rather fast. It's lacking in fuel. Eats fuel like nothing. Too loaded with bombs. It is EXTREMELY Unmaneuverable and handles like a slug. On top of all that, you cant rotate until 400 mph.
What it needs is nose weight. Needs to move the CoM forward. here is a good tip: take the horizontal stabilizers off. Then look at the CoM/CoL relationship and base the balance off that. The stabilizers dont provide lift so that is the true relationship you need once you got it right, then put the stabilizers on.
@AwesomeBoeingMaster788
That one is more stable for sure. I actually had to try a little bit harder to get it into a flat spin. But it recovered the first time. It still does bobble and has an annoying tendency to pitch up on its own.
@JovianPat
I flew it again noticing that i only tested with the boosters on. It does still go through fuel rather quickly with just the center engine going.
I dont know... I ran a test by having a 1000lb fuse block drop from each wing a diving into it. I used my delta winged planes (because they have multi part wings and have best chance of surviving the hit). I lost parts from both wings on both tests. However, the engines still worked. For the record: as long as the cockpit is connected to a part containing fuel the engines should still work.
Which jet engine type?
I messed up my speed brid plane and my model of the ME-262 (both use med jets) and they kept going, abiet unstable (fatally so with speedbird).
Think of when this happened to you (because i know it has):you've go the camera right where you need it, you got the part pulled from the menu, and there is a tiiiiiiny hoke where you've got to put it to make your plane perfect. You drag it into the hole, but suddenly, it zips off your finger and next to the hole. So you slightly move it back in. It sits where you want it. You move your finger off the touch screen, and suddenly, its out of plane again. After rinsing and repeating for 10 mins, it finnaly stays. Lock butten stops it from happening. When you get the part in place, hold the button with your other finger and the part wont move, making it safe to take you finger holding the part off the screen.

I had several close range fights and the prop plane's guns did the fighter in. however, missles beat the snot outta the propplane. The AI just doesnt know how to take advantage of ranged missles very well, as the fighter plane never tried real hard to get distance for missle shots
Yeah, i do agree that it's hard to aim, but i like that because it add realism. Contrary wise, other games like ace combat have an aim assist type deal. I kind of like the difficulty to hit things. @Sirstupid
I found it really dissapointing when i give the AI a big plane, and one hit to a wingtip blows it to tiny pieces. To compare: my plane and the AI plane had a MID-AIR COLLISION! He hit my wing with his nose! I lost a part of my wing (i was flying my green floating bird which has divided wings) and he disintigrated. This means that mid-air collisions cause less damage that a bullet.
Rules state "No Successors. Must be original." All the default planes were made by players of old. So, no.
I think it just took a while before everyone figured out that jelly was really just trolling. He was only just trying to "tick" everyone off. And man did he succeed.
@Redlord
The normal wing is 1 solid piece. I put 2 ailerons on it and inverted one of them
@Redlord
Where??? Where is this 4th wing?

QUESTION!!!
Can the main wing be sectionalized? As in multiple wings pressed together to make 1, or is it just 3 one-piece wings

Yeah, when tagging your craft, hit search. Though, the seaplane tag really should exist
Bwahaha!!
@jesemd
thanks. I bet it took a long time and a bunch of patience to make this plane though. It is a fun one to fly.

I thought i recognized the style. Could never put my finger on it. Very nice job on making it somewhat stable though.

Use fuselage parts. Adjust until it's a corner piece then use rise and run to make the angle.

The only suggestion i cam come up with is to either, make it so your plane foesnt use as much fuel, or reset your plane often.
Unfortunatly, it doesnt work that way. from what i understand, the modded fuel tank you're using is 2 tanks. 1 is loaded with fuel and therefor, ULTRA heavy. Looks great. Much better than mine, but it's rather unstable.
The biggest thing i want is resizable landing gear wheels.

I know the feel. had the same pitching problem with my corsair.

Very unstable. Pitch down is suicide and sends you into a flat spin.
I think the only reason they wont do this is because of the pylons/detachers and the launch force which screws up the aim.
@JovianPat
I flew it again noticing that i only tested with the boosters on. It does still go through fuel rather quickly with just the center engine going.
Overall: very nice aircraft. Handles very well.
Only issue i see with this is that it eats fuel quickly with boosters on.
