The least power I have managed to get stable flight on is around 30% on auto pilot.
It flies a little nose up doing that but it does not seem to go down or up too fast at all and using so little power fuel use is minimal.
Had a rough day at work today, so I tried to make something that reflected my mood, in other words, something rough and ugly.
For some reason none of them flew well at all.
Then this happened, sort of popped out of my head.
There are a LOT of different aircraft that influenced this build, some of them are even real.
Turns out what someone once said is true, "If it looks good, it will probably fly well".
Pretty nice, super fast too.
Autopilot hates it when the afterburners are active tho.
Without autopilot, solid as a rock all the way to max speed, which I don't think I've gotten to.....yet.
Maybe tomorrow after work.
The tiny jets near the tail are there pretending to be exhausts.
They do not actually do anything except look good and add a little detail to the plane that I have never done before.
Anyone know if there is a way to 'switch off' the sound on those?
My Father, a former model aircraft enthusiast, has told me that he had a control model called the 'Shrike' I think it was, that had a similar wing structure to this and flew pretty much the same.
I am going to try and find a plan on the interwebs.
Interesting fact.
Australia does have a small handful of Fighter aircraft it has designed and built.
I'm thinking I might make one of those, being a good Aussie bloke.
Seriously, thanks for the info, but I bet there are more people here that work in Imperial than Metric and while I do like the idea of being able to work in Metric, I reckon running too many mods might put more strain on my ancient PC than it can handle.
I'm currently running a 1st Gen i5 750 CPU.
Lynnfield I think the codename is.
Kinda tells how old my system is. lol
More info I just worked out. In panel size edit mode, 1 'click' (the noise the game makes when it reshapes the panel/wing) = 1.2 feet.
Before the question is asked, I'm using imperial measurements because that is what the game uses.
I'm in Australia and we use the metric systems here.
I sometimes get confused working out sizes because of it. lol
Ask and ye shall receive.
Not as pretty as a real one, the part count would have skyrocketed just doing the wing ends alone, but it's pretty sweet to fly.
EDIT: looked at plans again. Front wings are a whole TWO FEET TOO WIDE (front to back)! Oops!
@BlackhattAircraft
As in Sopwith Pup?
Something to think about I guess.
This plane was built using info from two plans, one showing an odd tricycle gear setup for both sides, so I suspect they are two different models of the same aircraft.
I like the way this turned out.
I may make another one, but stick closer to the plans I have, as in actually work out how wide the wings are and so on.
I'm very impressed.
Mum says it's very nice looking and reminds her of a friends control line Lancaster.
This is high praise from my Mum if you haven't already guessed.
Currently working on a 'twin' engine aircraft using the engine from this.
So many engines! It sounds good.
It is finished, at least it is fully flyable and up to my usual standard detail wise, as in 'not much detail'. heh
Planning on adding 'fake jets' (jets that do nothing but use fuel and look pretty) for the look of the thing, but which ones to use. *needs to think on that.
Has weapons on it this time, heavy machine guns, but that is it.
Looks like it could be a 'multi-role' aircraft capable of doing a bit of everything, but none of them super well. :F
@L728 Heh, things like this tend to fly for a very short distance if launched from Yeager.
However, you can get just about anything to 'fly' (using the term very loosely) if it has enough power.
Have a look at this thing made by me as an example -> The Slab
EDIT: Very interesting.
It is flyable, reasonably controllable too, one you get used to it.
It would benefit from a tail of some sort, just for stability.
It is definitely worth a look everyone, just for the fact that it really does seem to do what it should not be doing.
Seems like I am taking lessons from the really old aircraft just now.
The only other aircraft I can think of at the moment with 3 wings is the really OLD Triplane from WW1.
*does a quick gooogle search
Yep, the Dreidecker or Fokker DR1, circa 1918.
Also found out something I did not know, there was also a Sopwith Triplane built before the DR1. Interesting.
Things learned today:
1) Missiles mounted on Drones no longer function once separated from the Mothership.
I'm guessing that also goes for all of the other weapons in the inventory, although it may not be the case.
2) Giving missiles a very short launch delay time allows you fire a LOT of missiles at the same target. Looks impressive, but when it only takes ONE for a kill, it is a bit of a waste. Who cares, looks cool, all of the missiles firing off vertically. :p
It's big and not very pretty.
Still working on it.
Sort of.
The closely set twin tails will go, I will either separate them more or make one smack in the middle.
It will eventually have some sort of bombing system on it, when I think of something interesting along that line.
Plain old gravity bombs are a bit 'MEH' these days.
Maybe I can make JDAMS or whatever they are called.
Suggestions for weapons systems are welcome, I may even be able make some of them myself.lol
@plane918273645 lol, no.
Also, they seem to be working now, for some odd reason.
I placed an extra one and it seems to be ok now.
Not that it helps much the plane is so big. heh
I'm constantly adding stuff (weapons) to this.
I may even re-upload a version with the new gear on it at some point.
After seeing how a version of the Arsenal Bird (version 3 I think it is) launches missiles, I'm working on a vertical launch system for miniceptors.
Finding out how many of them I can stuff into a certain area without them blowing up the plane on launch has been fun.
The smaller they get, the more fit, but past a certain point they are a pain to handle.
1/4 scale is a good size I'm finding.
Also going to look at something that will make life very interesting if I can it to work. ;)
About this wing structure, it is just something I thought I would try out.
The forward swept wing is nothing new, but the way it has been built up is, at least I think it is.
The multiple wing... sections lets call them, generate an odd control surface shape.
If this was real, I don't think a pilot exists that could fly it to it's full potential, the g-forces generated would probably cause them to black out.
@Avro683Lancaster
I made something based on the Ekranoplan a little while back that you might want to have a look at, just search 'Ekranoplan' and check out the large version.
You might find a few things that could be useful, you might not.
For some reason I did not have the 'bobbing' problem that you seem to be having.
I have not downloaded your version (YET!), but I will.
If I can figure out how to kill the bobbing, I'll let you know.
Mine has a tendency to want to fly if it goes too fast. heh.
EDIT: Nope, no idea how to 'fix' the bobbing.
Your Ekranoplan does not work like mine.
Clever use of the new rotor systems though.
Very nice to use and looks good too.
@HiHiTryLol
I'm not sure what speed the surprise activates, but you really want to make sure you don't have any weapons on the wings when it does.
All I know is that if you are under 5000 feet and over 600 mph, the plane does an odd thing.
The speed could be faster or slower, I think it depends on how high you are.
If you can get it to happen, don't tell and spoil the 'surprise'. lol
I made a 'fighter' sized aircraft before this and wondered if a larger 'bomber' sized aircraft would perform in a similar fashion.
It turns out I'm right, it pretty much does, except for a slower roll than the fighter sized version.
The fighter IS coming, but I'm going to take my time and make it pretty and add some actual details to it, unlike this Bomber version which I just wanted to get out there after the NUN 'troll' I encountered. :P
NUN's and Penguins go together.
Ask Ted Bullpit from the show "Kingswood Country" about it. :P
*Kingswood Country is an old Australian TV show made well before the 'political correctness' thing hit.
@Notaleopard Yup, I know.
I made that too.
In here at any rate.
The Original design is from Freelancer and I have no idea who actually designed the ship.
Pretty sure I gave credit to the Freelancer game.
Lots of pretty cool ships to fly in that game.
This one is a non-uploaded predecessor for that one.
Also working on another one, it flies and so on, just need to make it 'pretty' and think up a backstory for it.
Going to be hard, it's not nice looking to start with. lol
@Giggitymerf
There are a number of very large aircraft on here that perform surprisingly well.
Mind you some of them have XML modified engines and a few other things, but that doesn't make them any less nice to fly. ;)
@shipster
Pretty big.
Probably not the biggest one on here though, I have not really looked.
Aside from that, I pretty much had to custom make a weapon for my project so it looks right.
The least power I have managed to get stable flight on is around 30% on auto pilot.
It flies a little nose up doing that but it does not seem to go down or up too fast at all and using so little power fuel use is minimal.

Thanks for the upvotes.
Has anyone managed to get one of the motors to blow up yet?
I've done it once, darned if I know how.
I was doing some pretty harsh things and it went 'boom'.
Suprized the heck out of me when it happened :))
@Randomdoggo
Thanks!
Guess I'm going to have to try and make something a little special for hitting Silver. ;)
5 engines running propellers, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 back to front.
Makes for an unexpectedly nice sound.
The tiny jets near the tail are there pretending to be exhausts.
They do not actually do anything except look good and add a little detail to the plane that I have never done before.
Anyone know if there is a way to 'switch off' the sound on those?
@Mumpsy
Very nice.
Looks great and is very stable and nice to fly.
Nice.
Reminds me a lot of one of the fighter aircraft in an Anime called 'Sky Crawlers'.
*downloads.
@USSR
Thanks :)

I've been wondering, what is it with the WeasleZone (?) and other youtube tags?
Should I tag a plane like this with one of them?
Info anyone?
EDIT: meh, tagged weaslezone :P
Interesting fact.
Australia does have a small handful of Fighter aircraft it has designed and built.
I'm thinking I might make one of those, being a good Aussie bloke.
Much better than the one I made.
Nice work.
EDIT: Flies OK, but you really need to have the outer engines working to get it off the ground.
Looks great in the air too.

@JediWolf Not worried about that, people don't normally post planes that explode unless they really need help. lol
Far too many parts for my rather old PC to handle. Not going to be downloading this. Be interesting to see if you get that 'world record' though.
@JediWolf Went and had a look.
Nice work, I may download one when I am actually awake.
Pretty recent too, so I will not bother making one myself.
@MegaFox
@JediWolf
I know the plane you are talking about and I guess it does look a little bit like one of those.
