It might not be intended to be a swastika, but at first glance that is indeed a big fat swastika. Nazis have also used un-tilted swastikas very often, so it is indeed a nazi symbol to some people, and can be mistaken for one way too easily. Coming from someone who had 0 context of this I can see why it got removed.

What is there to be concerned about? You can literally click on their name and see their past usernames on their profile. Plus, the only people actually getting affected are the people changing their username, since a new name usually means that others are gonna have a hard time recognizing them at first. It only takes two seconds to see who changed what username.
