@MAHADI bah.. there's already a mod that does the job -all they have to do is make it a standard part of SP. Strange, though; a game that's all about building planes doesn't have the right geometric shapes to build a wing.
Looks absolutely stunning! I would love to take it for a drive, but even very conservative cornering at > 30 mph (i.e. old folks' rollator speeds) results in a crash. Am I doing sth wrong, or is the real Montero actually that dangerous..?? LOL
@MAHADI I know. But that's a rather thin wing, and it has the same thickness throughout. You get a nice & smooth transition to the control surface, but the wing itself looks unrealistic.
@MAHADI ...which more often than not makes you end up with flaps and ailerons that are (at least) as thick as they're wide -control surfaces with the shape and size of a Louis XIV cupboard ;) noooo thanks.

@GuyFolk sure it's bound to be twitchy -but the effect is somewhat over the top now. Even small corrections result in the plane hopping all over the place. Probably mostly due to SP's physics model of course, but still... I don't have a Draken in my garage, so I won't claim to be experienced in how it flies. But I don't imagine it hops around like a rabbit with every sudden change of direction.
I beg to differ -the looks are fine, great even. It's definitely a cool build, but the plane behaves like a lowrider on Pesco pumps, jumping all over the place.
@MAHADI It seemed like a most fitting livery in this case... makes a nice change from putting red stars on all old Soviet planes. BTW -I notice I forgot to de-mod the plane. Just dl and judge without the mod... sorry 'bout that.
@MrACEpilot I hate "camo" in SP... there's no possibility to use textures, so all attempts to make a camo pattern look like absolute sh* -nothing cool about that. Even a simple two-tone paint scheme adds quite a part count, and it will still look like crap. Silver may be boring, but it's also the standard livery of these planes...
@F104Deathtrap I wouldn't call the MiG-21 -or any other old Soviet plane, for that matter- technologically less advanced than the US equipment. A different design, resulting from a different mindset, but no less effective. But you (and Moltke) are right; no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. The US planes and pilots were at least every bit as good, but the people calling the shots were not too bright...
@F104Deathtrap true -only, in this case size doesn't matter. A missile hit from a small plane is just as deadly. Back then, it all came down to how good the pilots were.

@KnightOfRen The "trick" is the same as always; just download, when you get the error about the mod just hit "undo" and then "redo"... presto, the plane minus the mod. The cockpit will look a bit funny without it, though... :D :D
@KnightOfRen LOL... any U-2 will do fine, I guess. There are ample U-2's on SP, and none of them are much of a challenge if you use the missiles. But hitting them with the Su-9 itself is not so easy...
@WarHawk95 my, aren't you a nitpick... let's call 'em R510's then, why not. Doesn't matter, since the IVA HAD NO MISSILES AT ALL. But if it's going to dogfight planes in the game, then it would be at a bit of a disadvantage with cannons-only. And AIM-9's would look very weird indeed.

@AsteroidAsteroidTheBook yeah... you're right, and I did consider it. Small effort to add a few plates & rotators. But let's face it; in-game, nobody's going to randomly switch cam views to check on the functioning of the intake vents. And I couldn't find a decent FDS on these, so whatever functionality I programmed was likely to be wrong anyway. Seemed pointless to add randomly opening/closing vent ports, running up the part count even further if nobody even notices/cares. Got your point, though, and it's valid...
@CharlesDeGaulle hmmm... I think they're rather ugly, in a beautiful sort of way. Let's face it; the Su-7 is a glorified stovepipe with wings. On top of that, the Soviet rule for "flush rivets" was that they shouldn't stick out more than 2 centimeter or so ;) difficult to emulate in SP, but still...
@ChiChiWerx yes, interesting indeed. The Su-11 is a different kettle of fish (hehe) of course, being a delta-winged interceptor. Still, the planes are related... and I did plan to make a Su-9 and Su-11 as well. So we should compare, by all means!
@BND1 the mod is not absolutely required, just some cockpit cosmetics. See AWESOMNESS360's guide further below -you can easily use this plane without the mod.
@blackvultureaeroespace it's not any unit's symbol. It's some kind of "badge of excellence" awarded to the plane/unit's ground tech crew for good maintenance... so you would see it on many a Soviet plane. Personally I think it's a strange practice, since it means that planes not carrying this badge are perhaps not properly maintained..??
@FireFast212 Nothing fancy... just some gyro's with different settings, all working together to produce the required effect depending on AG's activated.
@cats Very true. This isn't one specific MiG-19 model; it has the nose radar of the P/PM but the pitot of the S (would have been on the wingtip with the P), the J-6 drag chute, the Atolls which were a later modification of existing P's etc...

Very fun plane, this! Not really an Ar-234 though, but that's easy to forgive.
@GuyFolk don't think you need anything fancy... probably just a matter of balancing it right, playing with the wing shape & size, elevons etc...
