  • GCP-BMB Catfish 4.9 years ago

@GCPrototypes Well, of course, if merchant ships are now mostly airborne, submarines will most likely fall out of military use...

  • GCP-BMB Catfish 4.9 years ago

Why would airships replace subs? I mean, they are still the most stealthy platform bar none and IIRC they'd still be better at commerce interdiction and nuclear deterrence...

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Spef most likely doesn't. His lores are less about actual plot and is more about what he have XML-ed to make that thing. @Treadmill103 on the other hand have written short stories about his own dieselpunk AU.

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Sorry for messing up your name🙇...
The internal workings of my brain seems to have a troubling resemblance to a paper shredder when it comes to names and faces... or just people in general...
Also, no, Spef and I are not talking you dying from a nuke - we know you can prolly walk that off. We're joking about his experience w/ Taylor's solution, which is commonly used to calculate the effect of nuclear bombs. So the joke is basically that whether he had been working on nukes and whether he might die from his own home-made nukes or not.

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@spefyjerbf Well it feels more reassuring knowing that my friend won't die to a great ball of nuclear fire anytime soon :3

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@spefyjerbf Your... experience? With the Taylor solution? We're still talking about SP... right? Just give me a shout when you're nowhere near the polar regions yet the sun's already up at midnight...
Jokes aside, it's just that my ballparking about the in-game damage of a cruise missile compared to a 500lb bomb, and IIRC according to that function twice the explosives (and probably twice the energy released) would result in a blast wave with the radius of 2^(1/5) times of the original, and 1.8 is around 2^(1/5) times of 1.6, so I just decided to go full "**** this, I'll just use this equation here", so I have literally zero idea if that's how it works or not, it's just a random guesstimation based on a random guesstimation...

@Griffon1Crosswind Yeah, like who in the world still uses semi-active radar homing missiles after we got active radar homing ones? The problem is, only a Sidewinder visually resembles that abomination of a Guardian...

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Sovetzkyrossiya IIRC there isn't a FAB-1000, at least not one that resembles the Boom25...

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@rexzion So basically Greg Kurozaki is another alias of that Greggory005 guy.

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@rexzion Well, that Greg Kurozaki guy came from a world where the air is saturated w/ uranium after a nuclear holocaust so perhaps his ideas on bombs are a bit... skewed.
Glorious Atom, Praise On To Thee!
P.S. Yes, that's a Fallout reference, and I probably should stop speaking in references.

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Ouch. How many fingers do you still have? Five as in "two on one hand, three on the other"?
    Yes, that's a StarCraft reference

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 The point is that you said a 750lb bomb can't even be called a proper bomb for it's too small... when 500lb bombs are still the mainstay.
Also, please make sure they aren't still in your hands when they go off.

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 A 750lb bomb shown in that picture is merely a firecracker to ya? I know that the Zakaer group have already nuked Earth in your setting, but IIRC unrestricted nuclear warfare is still bad, right?

  • (somewhat) Accurate Ordnance Sizes and Flight Models 4.9 years ago

@rexzion Well there isn't one in either families so you can't use vanilla weapons to make them without adding another detacher into the mix and thus screwing over your ability to use ejector racks... Anyways, thanks for the upvote!

  • Per Aspera Ad Astra VII 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Right, one thing: ever heard of the Vol Noor? For some reason I'm unconsciously making the starfighter more and more similar to its design with every revision...

  • Per Aspera Ad Astra VII 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 You should know that I wanted to build pseudo-saucers (aka saucers w/ fins and cockpits and guns and whatnot) since like seven years ago. Glad to see another guy sharing the same fetish.
P.S. Did I just call my fondness for such designs a fetish?
    P.P.S. Yes I did.

@Greggory005 "Now"?! The implications are rather... troublesome...
Anyways, for reasons beyond me, I'm a bit too enthusiastic on tutoring others on whatever I happen to know about...

  • Laf 12 mk.2 Gun based propulsion (Overpowered) 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 You know, it's a bit lonely up there, three thousand miles above the ground... Seriously, you're like the third guy on this entire site who's interested in building fully space-capable planes, so of course I'm a bit excited to talk about what to build!

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Yeah, gyros can be good especially when you actuality go to space...

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 On a technicality, right in the middle of where the "bullets" strike. That's why on my drive units i have them arranged in groups of four, so that the center of the drive mount is also the COT of the thruster.

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Not really, the impactForce and roundsPerSecond is what determines the thrust of the engine, and a higher muzzleVelocity only made the engine more stable, so there's literally nothing to do w/ the gyros. Hell, Spef had three flyers w/ this drive before we even had gyros in the first place!

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Also, this might be useful if you need to know more about formatting and the like.

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 If the impacForce of the back row miniguns is x, set the impactForce on the front row to -2 * x. The miniguns have a natural impactForce of 10, so set the front row to -20 if you didn't set up the back row.

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

@Greggory005 Try to fly with the plane, notice that it shakes a lot regardless the airspeed? That vibration is what Spef and I call the RID, and it shouldn't be there.

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

    @Greggory005 That's why I have a link there...

  • LAF 12 propulsion system 4.9 years ago

Too many RIDs, it's a wonder that it can maintain atmospheric flight without shaking itself apart, let alone getting to orbital velocities. I had some discussions w/ @Spefyjerbf a few months ago about similar systems, and I hope it may be of some use to you.
Also, in case anyone's wondering, the grey cylindrical engines behind that saucer are the drive units. Feel free to take it apart to see how it works!

TL;DR: The underlying principle of such engines is that the higher the miniguns' muzzle velocity the more stable it is.

  • Auto-lock missiles - and how to make them 5.0 years ago

@EliteArsenals24 I deemed the previous builds to be of low quality or of outdated lore.

@EliteArsenals24 Nah, the ones I provided links of are simply the ones I marked as favorite, and I can sorta figure out a design by seeing it in action once, so...

  • Auto-lock missiles - and how to make them 5.0 years ago

@EliteArsenals24 Actually IIRC that cannon-missile set was first made by some @riko guy in an anti-ship missile launcher sorta build... Then someone else made a British V-bomber with the same set...

@Spefyjerbf @EliteArsenals24 @Sadboye12 Something I managed to find via reverse-engineering. Not sure if you guys already have entire stashes of such weapons in your arsenals, though...

  • Auto-lock missiles - and how to make them 5.0 years ago

@NormalPioneer That... abomination that looks like something spewed by someone completely void of reasoning and sanity, and then mangled by some machine-translator intentionally designed to reduce the sanity of any and all who read its finished translation to negative?

  • Auto-lock missiles - and how to make them 5.0 years ago

@rexrexThezion Well, try out the drone, take apart the six missiles underneath its wings, and you might get a better understanding of what I'm saying.
