@brians1209, Thank you so much, man! I also have something for this challenge, but honestly, this deserves to win in my opinion! It looks like an F104 and an M.52 had a child
Well, This has 96 parts, but I built it to be fun for dogfighting, and it even features a rear gunner. Additionally, it is from a somewhat similar time period as yours
@thekingofgods, Wow, thank you for the kind words! I agree; it would probably look better if it were a bit wider. However, if I were to rebuild this, I would change up quite a few things.
@Rondine, The idea is that the prop is powered by the engine inside the plane through a driveshaft. You can see the exhaust system of the engine in the front of the plane; the thing on top is just a gearbox.
Anyways, here are a few words:
This is pure insanity. You can be more than proud of this. I can't even imagine how you pulled it off to make it efficient enough to even be playable!
@XEP,I strongly disagree. For me, designing these crafts is about conveying a special feeling or just creating something I've thought about. The "realistic" aspect is more of a template, like when you add a bunch of pipes to your fictional steampunk creation. Of course, these pipes don't serve a real purpose, but the idea is that people accept that they do (which is easy because most of the time you also don't know what things are meant to do in imaginary worlds). This plane, in particular, is meant to convey the peculiar atmosphere of WW1 planes. They had the most beautiful paint jobs, yet they where designed to kill. For me, there's this tension between the freedom of flight and mans misuse of it. To convey something like that, I don't need to calculate wing area or anything like that. Realism is different from atmosphere. A concrete example of this would be Warhammer. Feel free to point out mistakes; I'd like to see where this conversation goes.
@XEP, I don't know if the prop is too small, it might be. The layout is purely fictional; this build prioritizes looks over anything else. Also, I don't see a reason to connect the engine with the guns as they are not meant to be synchronized. Yes, weight would probably be an issue, the wings are a bit far behind the engine. There is also a land version without the funky prop placement if you'd prefer that: here you go
@ThomasRoderick, not really, I just build when I have some ideas, but im not very active...But thank you!!

@Crums, it was a struggle
There is a setting called "hide instruments"; this way, you can hide the horizon.

@WinsWings, that was such a good challenge
+1@Rondine, good to hear you like it
@WinsWings, thank you, amazing plane!
+1@Liquidfox01, The propeller was a weird design choice (I even got a bit of backlash for it), but I think it works well. Thank you
@WinsWings, Glad you enjoy it

amazing
what a great challenge this was, 144 entries, and most of them were amazing ones at that! Also, a well-deserved 1st place.
+2for a quick fix use clamp01() whenever you have a Boolean (instead of a>bc>d do clamp01(a>b)clamp01(c>d).....)
ah, another PicsArt user
uhhh does that mean I got to fix all my descriptions.......
+1@SrUrso, thank you!
+1@Zaineman, honored to be there, get well soon!
