People get banned for breaking the terms of use for this website. The mods made a post specifically addressing this. How many times are we going to have to revisit this issue with people?
Whenever people talk about "the good old days" I always respond with the question, "Good for who?" It's hard to look at your life and consider the fact that others don't have it so good, but chances are that is exactly the case. Unless you happen to wish yourself into a considerable amount of affluence, the 1950's would be a pretty rough time to be alive.
@SavageMan It had to do with a variety of issues, some from the plane, most from politics. It was a difficult plane to fly and its safety features were not up to it, at first. For example, it had a downward firing ejector seat that meant accidents during takeoff and landing (where most accidents happen) would doom the pilot. Eventually, Lockheed would fix most of the issues one way or another but by then other problems emerged. With the Airforce not buy very many Starfighters, Lockheed bribed international politicians to use the F-104 in ways it was ill suited, ground attack for example. Export fighters should be reliable and easy to learn, F-104 was neither. It wasnt a bad design, it was used the wrong way.
In no way am I suggesting it's a shortcut to upvotes. It's a place to socialize and learn how to build better stuff. That's it. There are other things besides imaginary internet points.
@QuitePossiblyMangled They can't see your score on discord and they certainly don't care about it. If someone decides that it's not for them, that's fine. But there's no real reason not to give it a shot, assuming they're old enough and don't mind speaking English.
Here's a tip for this forum (and any kind of media). Whenever the title is a question, the answer is "No" and the article is CLICKBAIT. Thank you for listening to my TED talk, have a nice day.
I use a very specific set of steps because that's what works for me, I think most good builders do it differently. I use a mod that lets me keep a blueprint in the background as I work.
FIRST, I look up the wingspan of what I will build. Then I build a rod with the exact length of the wingspan. Then I resize the blueprint image so the blueprint wingspan matches the wingspan rod.
Second, I throw away the wingspan rod. I build the shape of the fuselage to match the blueprint. Then I build the shape of the tail and the shape of the wings. There are all fuselage blocks, there is no engine/wing parts/ etc. at this point. I am careful to include all the control surfaces (ailerons, rudder, elevators, etc) but I do not use rotators yet. I am only making the shape of the airplane.
Third, I add in details like letters, numbers, paint patterns, cockpit interior. Stuff that doesn't move. (If there are moving cockpit parts, I add them in the next step)
Four, I finally add moving parts. I attach all the control surfaces to rotators, I install landing gear, interior moving parts, wing blocks and engines. I make sure nothing is bugged.
Five, I test takeoff, flight, weapons and landing. Landing is the most important because it tests how controllable your plane really is. This part takes a long time because I am careful to make sure the planes in-game top speed, stall speed, maneuverability etc. matches the real-life plane. I spend most of this time tweaking the drag, engine power, wing sizes, and control surfaces. It takes a long time. I also drop the plane from 25 feet above the pavement to make sure the landing gear doesn't snap off.
Sadly, the devs abide by a "no questions asked" policy whereby any forum post asking when something will get released automatically delays it by at least two weeks.
How about you spend thousands and thousands of hours helping people out and answering the same questions over and over again and reading people's insulting garbage because you dared suggest they improve part of something. Then, by all means, go around calling people snowflakes. When you've done a tiny fraction of what he has done for people around here, maybe then you'll understand. But I doubt you'll try.
To learn how to make good stuff, you should study good stuff. Look up the highest rated posts of the last couple months, search through them for helicopters. Download and save the choppers then tear them apart to see how they were made.
I made a post about this about a year ago. Since then they've released some important new features that have really opened up new creative possibilities. While I would love to support Jundroo with another purchase, I certainly won't be complaining about the content they release to me for free. And if they're doing well then I guess there's no reason for them to change course.
@Gbhole Ironically, disabling shocks etc. usually makes landing smoother. If you don't, the wheel can travel upwards which causds the landing gear leg to scrape the ground and possibly break. Also, springy landing gear usually means that your plane will bounce down the runway like a trampoline. I know it doesn't seem realistic, but it is what it is.
@QingyuZhou There was a really nice Reno Racer Mustang last week, and a few Twin Mustangs that were pretty cool, but usually I feel like Mustang builds don't really expand the library of the game, you know? I like to see things that are a new take on something or that raise the bar of quality or draw attention to something under appreciated. I feel like this Mustang sort of does that. There are not many ROCAF builds on here, and I think Chinese history is something that certainly deserves more attention.
@qwerty132 The joke builds are fine. I don't like that they take up precious slots on the front page, but otherwise a good laugh can be just as important as the player guided cruise missile system that I spent weeks developing and testing for my latest aircraft.
And you included a pipper. You guys are heroes. Here, have my upvote. Also, you could probably simulate the siren sound by hiding a modded engine inside the fuselage.
@Winstonlharambe Well done. You've hit upon one of the less obvious features that sets this game apart from so many others: very satisfying destruction. The way our precious creations shatter into hundreds of pieces and scatter across the hillsides is quite hypnotic. For April Fools I re-uploaded a popular tank someone else made, the only difference was I had removed every single connection, so as soon as it loaded, it collapsed into a pile.
This is what they refer to in the industry as "a mid air collision." Instead of applause, it usually leads to an investigation, lawsuits, often a conviction, etc. Generally frowned upon.
Spefy's right. The thing about experimental tech is that most of the time it doesn't work. All it has to do is work one time in a lab while someone is watching in order to be considered a success. Is it portable? Is it reliable? Does it break if you shake it? Does it break after you use it more than one time? Nobody cares, it's only an experiment, relax.
This was one of the problems Germany faced in WW2. Because the people in power had very little experience with how to run a government, they wasted staggeringly huge resources on bringing experimental tech onto the battlefield. The result? Planes that could only fly 10 hours before their engines melted, tanks too heavy to bring to the battlefront, and frontline fighters that never had enough good old fashioned ammunition.
@randomusername I think I'm not explaining this properly. Your planes in this game will only fly level at a very specific speed if you don't use trim. If you go faster than that speed the plane will nose up on its own, if you go slower than that speed it will nose down on its own. Trim lets you fly evenly within a wide range of speeds and a wide range of altitudes in this game. It also lets you control how fast you descend, making landing much easier.
@RailfanEthan is right. What if Trump had read this? How many innocent people would've been killed before he realized the mistake and blamed it on Hillary Clinton?
@8bitgamer33 I love the Wright flyer, but your claim that nobody would ever make airplanes had the Wrights not done so is ridiculous. That's like suggesting that if the first-place runner in a race hadn't shown up, that no one else would have run. The future is unwritten, and that's how it was for the people of the past as well. Had the Wrights not flown at Kittyhawk, there were plenty of others taking to the sky around that time.
As a matter of fact, the Wright brothers damaged American aviation by ruthlessly suing anyone else who tried to build airplanes in the USA. For a decade the States lagged behind European countries because the monopoly the Wright brothers held.
This is going to open up so many new possibilities

+3@Mr10ToN You have to nudge the engine forward 5 clicks. No idea why.
+3The bumps are too large on your diverterless air inlets, make them smaller to allow in more air to the engines.
