  • Jundroo turns 10 years old today 3.0 years ago

Oh man, has it really been 10 years?

I started with SimplePhysics and shortly thereafter moved on to SimpleRockets, which I had an absolute blast with (pun fully intended). I can't say for certain, but I'm fairly confident that I first got SimplePlanes within a week or two of the original mobile release, and then basically stuck with it ever since. Haven't ventured into SR2 yet, but I recall at least trying out Aero Effect.

Happy birthday Jundroo, and here's to 10 more years!

Dream car? Second-gen Pontiac Firebird, hands down. I'm more partial to the '70-'73 (and of course the '77-'78) in terms of aesthetics, but honestly I'd go for any model year.

Realistically? Something that won't break on me, has a CD player instead of a touchscreen, and isn't a coupe or small sedan. (I don't have anything against them, but I am a few inches taller than average... also, cargo space is nice.) Not sure what that'll be yet, though.

@Alternation @KevPlayzz Don't do that. Jundroo are good people and they deserve the money. Pirating indie games is just wrong on a bunch of different levels. Textbooks and stuff are another matter, but indie game devs put their hearts and souls into their games, so the least you can do is buy them legitimately.

  • Why does SimplePlanes keep crashing? 11 months ago

Could be some other thing in the background, or the game just decides to crash because it does that occasionally. Save often so that you don't lose much progress.

It's called Funky Trees because that's the name of the programming language (yes, SimplePlanes has its own programming language, and it's Funky Trees). No idea why they picked it, but that's what it's called.

  • Quick Question... 1.2 years ago

Celsius is a relative scale, so you can't really say any point is "twice as cold" (or "twice as hot" as any other point on the scale. 4 degrees Celsius isn't "half as hot" as 8 degrees, because Celsius "begins" (at 0 degrees) at an arbitrary point and can go in both directions, meaning that "zero" does not indicate a true zero value. You could say that 4 degrees is half as much above zero as 8 degrees, but it is not half as hot.

As a side note, this is why Kelvin exists. Kelvin is an absolute scale, meaning that it starts at zero and only progresses in one direction. If we were talking in Kelvin, 4 degrees would be half as hot as 8 degrees, because Kelvin has a defined absolute minimum value (it cannot go below zero), meaning that each step is a known and consistent distance from that actual zero point.

  • Ok, What is this Spark1645 Situation?? 1.9 years ago

I believe the general idea is that Spark had made a bunch of simple-but-really-good-looking planes, and then deleted his account for... some reason. I don't know the details on that. Since then, people have been trying to reupload as many of his builds as possible (because they are quite good, particularly for mobile users who want realistic-looking planes but can't take high part counts), but it's been super disorganized.

I like the idea of a Spark1645 Collection account. That would make a lot more sense, and would prevent people from getting points from planes they didn't make or modify. There definitely needs to be coordination on this, at least.

  • Hey Jundroo I have an idea 2.0 years ago

Not a bad idea on the surface (pun intended), but the problem is that it would require a full, decent-resolution UV map to be done for every single part in the game, instead of the current basic materials system that the game uses.

Currently, a part (say, a prop engine) is essentially split into three or four sub-models, each of which can be colored independently. To the average player, these are known as the part's Primary, Trim 1, Trim 2, and (sometimes) Trim 3 colors. When painting a part, currently all the game has to do is specify which color slot gets applied to that section of the part.
For example, if you have a part painted with the first three colors as Primary, Trim 1, and Trim 2, all the game has to know, code-wise, for how to color that part is material=1,2,3 (along with the associated color codes that occupy those slots, which are defined elsewhere in the plane file).

Switching to a fully texture-able system would require the game to be able to store (and generate) not only the basic color data, but also much more complex data like size, position, and orientation, as well as the actual graphic being applied. That goes for every single part in the game, and for every piece of imagery or color applied to them.

Tl;dr not a bad idea on the surface, but technically infeasible given the way the game works (and likely for performance reasons as well).

  • Intresting screenshot i got 2.1 years ago

The missile knows where it is at all times.
It knows this because it knows that it occupies all locations simultaneously, and therefore is always both where it is and where it isn't, as the two are indistinguishable.
The missile cannot be where it isn't, as it is present in every location at the same time.
The missile guidance system is aware of this, and by subtracting where it isn't - that is, nowhere - from where it ought to be, it calculates where it is - that is, everywhere at once.

  • My Thoughts About SimplePlanes 2 2.2 years ago

@OPaiTaOn That's what I'm thinking as well. SR2 made sense because SR1 was/is a completely different two-dimensional game, but an SP2 would just be more-or-less the same game with some improvements (that could probably be just as easily added to the original). Now, I could see there being a big "SimplePlanes 2.0" update (not a separate game) that does stuff like expanding the map, improving the designer, etc. that people want, but I don't think a standalone SP2 makes sense.

I appreciate the work you and your sources put in to making this such a clear and well-proven case. This kind of thing should not be allowed, and I'm surprised it's gone somewhat under the moderators' radars unnoticed up until now.

It's all for attention, which is why they will never actually leave of their own free will. Either they get so thoroughly called out that they are forced to leave in shame and make a big sob story post trying to make everyone feel bad for exiling them or whatever, and then come back a day later with a new account, or they get banned.

(Too bad this post will probably get removed in a few hours, it's genuinely an important callout but it could pretty easily be seen as breaking the policies on targeting and whatnot. Will be interesting to see how the moderators handle this.)

  • About AI 1.1 years ago

A lot of times I just end up flying around in circles because I can't out-maneuver the other plane. The AI won't let off and it just keeps flying around in circles.

The AI tends to prefer two-circle/Lufbery/rate fights (which, given its fairly simple aggressive programming that more-or-less amounts to "keep the nose pointed at the enemy," makes sense), so if you and the AI have similar capabilities you will probably get locked into a rate fight if you allow yourself to be.

The tricky part of a rate fight against a comparable aircraft is that it is very difficult to leave or reverse your turn without opening yourself up to attack. The AI's programming accounts for this, and it can be very difficult to disengage and try for a different attack if you don't have enough energy to stay away from the enemy's nose while reversing your turn.

The best way to avoid this is to not get into a rate fight to begin with, but you can also try to turn the situation to your advantage by moving into the vertical axis, which will cost you energy but decrease your turn radius and help you get around the circle faster.

Probably 99.999% of the planes you see on this site are built exclusively using the in-game tools and part selection. There's a few that aren't (using the methods that @PlaneFlightX and @BeastHunter listed), but the overwhelming majority of planes are exclusively made using the in-game builder. It's not the most intuitive system, but it can be pushed really far.

  • Humble Bundle 1.4 years ago

    @PZLAerospacesAgency
The reason that mods are no longer supported on iOS/Android is because Apple and Google have both decided to prevent "third-party" (read: player-created) code from running on their devices. Jundroo had no control over this decision, and is not responsible for the inability to support mods on iOS/Android devices. This has been the case for several years now, and is quite unlikely to change.

(Actually, I don't remember if iOS even ever supported modding in the first place.)
