Based on the vent on the end of the tail, yes, it would have a NOTAR system. Though I am unsure if the aerodynamics of this heli’s tail would allow for such a design choice. Based on the reading that you linked, such a system produces lift that counters the torque of the helicopter, using something called a boundary layer. I honestly do not know too much about boundary layers, but I do know that they need to form over a surface that does not have any jarring edges, which may be present on the tail here. Still, a very nice build!

Also tagging @ThomasRoderick bc he said something about NOTAR a few hours ago

  • Some help with XML please 3.7 years ago

Oh boy this comments section looks fun. I might as well leave a comment, but unlike the others I will actually be helpful. We can use some Funky Trees code to do what you are asking for:
    .
    RotatorInput * floor(smooth(clamp01(sign(RotatorInput)*ceil(abs(RotatorInput))), RotatorInput ? 1 / delayTime : pow(10, 10)))
    .
Replace the following words with values as you see fit:
RotatorInput: the input for your rotator. It could be VTOL or trim or something
delayTime: however long your delay is, in seconds
    .
Let me know if this works. I am not super familiar with how rotator inputs work with my standard delay inputs. Put this code in the “input” field of the rotator using overload, and lemme know if it works!

  • Why 2020 wasn't so bad, (my opinion, and user responses) 4.0 years ago

Responding to Wiiimini's response, BLM wasn't really a bad part of 2020...
Police reform has been long overdue in the US by now -- 99% of the movement's proposed reforms are common sense, and have been implemented in every other comparable country.
    .
My comment may be out of place here, but this is an issue that I am passionate about. This issue is also quite prone to misinformation.
    .
As for my 2020, this year hasn't been so bad. Socially it was meh, but my career prospects skyrocketed. Might take a new job relating to flight systems and aerospace vehicle dynamics (fingers crossed).

Nothing too insane haha - just a nice gig I picked up a few summers ago. My experience with Taylor's solution comes from outside of SP - I did some research a while ago to adjust for some of the assumptions made when that equation was derived. As much as I would like to elaborate, I would be giving you some personally-identifiable info as the research (and its context) was pretty niche. I didn't make anything blow up if that makes you feel more comfortable :)
    .
It seems like my info helped, which was really cool! Often guesstimation and ballparking is the best option we have.

  • Some Random (But Probably Useful) Findings 4.2 years ago

@ThomasRoderick I misread a good amount of this post, but I'd say that I was trying to answer how the blast yield is calculated. It seems like the relationship between explosionScalar and the damage of the weapon is not linear, yes. I'd say the explosionScalar actually can be interpreted as the blast radius, as it scales the blast radius up by a certain value. In this case, the yield (energy) of the weapon is directly related to what we would call the damage of the weapon. I guess that any change we make to the explosionScalar of the weapon would not necessarily give us an expected, linearly-scaled, damage value.
    .
As for the turrets, we would need to consider reference frames. In other words, we need to know what our "local" orientation is. I'd say adding the pitchAngle to the TargetElevation would be a good start. I'm not sure if targetHeading would actually need to be adjusted. I haven't been able to play much SP due to school, so I have not actually experimented with these new FT variables yet.
    .
It is also important to note that your turret's code will need to be adjusted based on its position on your aircraft. An underside turret will have slightly different code from a turret on the side or top of your aircraft.

    +2
  • Some Random (But Probably Useful) Findings 4.2 years ago

If we are talking about real-life blast yields, the relationship between blast radius and blast yield is certainly not linear. I would assume that the blast radius solution differs between types of weapons (a small explosive most likely differs from a nuclear weapon in the megaton regime).
    .
Taylor's solution, in the form of this equation, is an entry-level method to estimate yields from blast radii. Note that the radius, r, is a function of time, t.
    .
Just thought that this would be interesting. There is a lot of cool research related to blast waves out there :)

@jamesPLANESii @SavageMan While the “don’t tread on me” flag has been recently associated with a certain US political party, I wouldn’t say that the flag itself is very controversial or political.
    .
However, if there is any rhetoric attached to the flag, then it would be political. And yes, such rhetoric can include applauding the actions of certain people who have put the flag on their trucks, and have driven them to various cities to make a very political statement. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you can disregard this part of my comment.
